INDIA'S TOURISM INDUSTRY - FACTS AND FIGURES

India's Tourism Industry is world renouned for its large spectrum of tourist spots and attractions, be it historically famous locations like Taj Mahal or Qutub Minar or the silver beaches of Goa and the backwaters of Kerala state. This Industry is a handsome contributer to the ex-chequer of Indian economy. Herw are some key figures and statistics that highlight the current status and impact of the Indian Tourism Industry:


1. CONTRIBUTION TO GDP : The tourism sector contributed approximately 7.7% to India's Gross Domestic Product (GDP} in 2019, accounting for around $.234 billion.


2. EMPLOYMENT GENERATION : The Industry is a significant employment provider providing jobs for around 42 million people directly and indirectly. By 2029-30, it is projected to create about 53 million additional jobs.


3. FOREIGN TOURIST ARRIVALS : In 2019, iNDIA saw around 10.93 million foreign tourist arrivals. However, this number dropped to approximately 2.7 million in 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic.


4. TOURISM REVENUE : In 2019, the Tourism sector accounted for roughly $.30 billion in foreign exchange earnings. This figure sawa significant decline in 2020 but is expected to recover as a global travel resumes.


5. DOMESTIC TOURISM : India is one of the largest domestic tourism markets. In 2018, there were about 1.8 billion domestic tourist visits, a figure that has been steadily increasing.


6. MEDICAL TOURISM ;The medical tourismmarket in India was valued at around $.4 billion in 2020, with projections to reach approzimately #.13 billion by 2026, driven by quality healthcare services at competitive prices.


7. ADVENTURE TOURISM GROWTH : The adventure tourism market in India is expected to grow by about 21% annually, reaching a value of $.4.5 billion by 2024, according to industry estimates.


8. GOVERNMENT INITIATIVES : The "Incredible India" campaign has been allocated a budget of Rs.2500 crores ($.340 million) to promote tourism and support recovery efforts post-pandemic.


9. SUSTAINABLE TOURISM : The Indian Government has launched the "Swedesh Darshan" and "PRASAD" schemes with a combined funding of over Rs.1300 crores ($.175 million) to promote sustainable and responsible tourism in different regions.


10. GROWTH POST-PANDEMIC : As of 2022, there has been agradual recovery in tourist numbers, with a reported increase of approximately 70% in domestic travel and a notable rise in international arrivals as rectrictions ease.
